There is no weak link there is not a single misstep (and this is a 68-minute-long album). My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy finds its creator in complete control of the chaos swirling inside his vivid imagination With My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Kanye West has lurched to the vanguard of modern mainstream music. It is a work of quite unique brillianceĪ magnificent, headspinning, audacious workĪ genuinely great record. Not only his defining work but a work which redefines the genre in which it stands, as well as the benchmark for the concept of the album in general. It may be too early to proclaim, but this is comparable to a Purple Rain or a Thriller
There is simply not a single record out there this year to match this for scope, audacity, vision and quality The effort to canonize My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy as one of hip-hop's all-time high points is already underway, and I'm confident that Kanye's new album can weather the backlash that all potential classics must confront Kanye’s long-awaited opus, a work of art that sees him finally reach the potential that was clear for all to see in College Dropout It is the heart, soul, and humanity of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy that ultimately marks it as the defining pop moment of 2010 Kanye's man-myth dichotomy is at once modern and truly classic Never before have we heard something like this it's an album that demands to be listened to and one that rightly sees West enter the all-time hall of fame with no argument Sets the bar so high that the album becomes something that will be talked about for years to come. One of pop's gaudiest, most grandiose efforts of recent years, a no-holds-barred musical extravaganza His most maniacally inspired music yet, coasting on heroic levels of dementia, pimping on top of Mount Olympus It’s Kanye West’s greatest work and not only does it prove that his name deserves to be in any greatest-of-all-time discussions, but it changes the way we have these conversations
There is no question that this album is a game changer. Nobody else possesses the combination of hubris, imagination, neuroticism, and drive it takes to make a record like this Janet Jackson background vocals on "PYT"Ĭredits for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy adapted from Allmusic.Sort by ADM rating Sort by most recent review La Toya Jackson background vocals on "PYT" Steve Porcaro keyboards, synthesizers, programmingīruce Swedien recording engineer, mixer Jeff Porcaro drums, horn and string arrangements Greg Phillinganes keyboards, synthesizers, programming Paul McCartney vocals on "The Girl Is Mine"ĭavid Paich keyboards, synthesizers, programming Michael Jackson co-producer, lead and backup vocals, drumsĪnthony Marinelli synthesizer programming Michael Boddicker keyboards, synthesizersĮddie Van Halen guitar solo on "Beat It" MJ on the other hand solely credited for four on Thriller.īrian Banks keyboards, synthesizers, programming Kayne is not solely credited for any one song on MBDTF. I'm not saying kanye is bad, i'm just saying to compare him to the beatles or MJ, and on that level, i doubt he's really there.but i understand he's certainly hot now, obviously A LOT of people like him, just don't understand the comparison, b/c i'm not hearing it. and on the 43 anniversary of his album in 2053, i can't wait to read the reviews of the remastered re-release of it, if i'm still alive.Īs for MJ, yes, i don't actively listen to him, but man you can't go through your day w/o hearing something of him since he died last yr.Īnd i will say, the songs beat it and billy jean are just cemented in my head (as well as EVH's solo from beat it-although i couldn't play it to save my life).and most of MJ's big single hits are just embedded in your head for the melodies he created. I would say that kanye's stuff won't stick in your head like that. kite by the beatles isn't their best, and to me sgt pepper sags a bit in the middle, but if you think of the best of what was on sgt pepper that was released as a single, I just pulled up the 3 songs that ROLLING STONE said are supposed to be the bomb on his new album. I'll admit, kanye isn't making albums for me & he cares not an inch about my thoughts.
